Brittany brings big bat to the Hurricanes

June 25, 2018

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Holland Hurricanes baseball program has added an impact bat to its lineup.

Outfielder Brett Brittany will join the Hurricanes this fall after spending a season at the University of Mount Olive, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina.

The Fredericton, N.B. native, who will enrol in the Culinary Arts program at Holland College, is looking forward to joining the Hurricanes.

“The great reputation of the Culinary Program is the first thing that drew me to Holland College,” he said. “Then, I began hearing about the baseball team being a strong team, and a team on the rise.”

Brittany, who bats left-handed, brings a winning pedigree to the Hurricanes, having also played two seasons at the Prairie Baseball Academy, earning All-Star selections and leading the league in home runs in both seasons in helping lead the Dawgs to two Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) championships.

He also captured a Western Major Baseball League championship with the Swift Current Indians (now the Swift Current 57’s) in 2016.

Hurricanes head coach Andrew MacNevin is eager to have Brittany in the fold going forward.

“Brett has had tremendous success at every level he has played, and already has made a huge impression on our program,” he said. “We are very excited to have a player of his caliber joining our program for this fall, as we continue the pursuit of winning a National Championship.”

He also has experience at the regional level, representing New Brunswick at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que., as well as being a two-time participant in Tournament 12, a national amateur baseball tournament held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto each September.

Brittany is also strong in the classroom, having been named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll while at Mount Olive, registering a GPA above 3.2 on the four-point scale.

As far as what fans can expect from the Hurricanes on the diamond this season, Brittany kept things simple.

“A team that will work hard and compete,” he said.

The Hurricanes will open their fifth season of play at Memorial Field on September 8 against the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
